Speech & Language Therapy

Helping children find their voice, express their ideas, and connect with confidence.

At Bloom, we provide individualized pediatric speech and language therapy designed to help children communicate more clearly, understand language, express themselves, and participate more confidently in everyday life. We believe communication is the bridge to connection, and we're here to support your child as they learn to navigate the world around them.

Speech Therapy: Finding Clearer Ways to Be Heard

Speech therapy focuses on how a child produces and organizes speech sounds. When a child struggles with speech, it can impact their willingness to communicate and their ability to be understood by others. We work closely with children to develop the physical coordination and mental organization required for clear, confident speech, turning frustrations into breakthroughs.

  • Articulation: helping children produce specific speech sounds more accurately
  • Phonological disorders: helping children learn the sound patterns and rules of their language
  • Improving overall speech intelligibility
  • Reducing sound substitutions, omissions, or other patterns that make speech difficult to understand
  • Supporting children in carrying new speech skills from therapy into everyday conversation

Note: Speech sound development is individualized, and therapy is always based on each child’s specific needs and developmental readiness.

Language Therapy: Building Understanding & Expression

Language therapy focuses on how children understand and use language. We emphasize both receptive language (what your child understands) and expressive language (what your child says). By building these foundations, we help children effectively communicate their inner world and comprehend the world around them.

  • Understanding directions and questions
  • Building vocabulary
  • Combining words and developing longer sentences
  • Expressing wants, needs, thoughts, and ideas
  • Answering and asking questions
  • Understanding concepts such as size, location, quantity, and time
  • Storytelling and sequencing
  • Grammar and sentence structure
  • Following conversations and participating in everyday communication

Speech + Language Can Be Connected

While speech and language are different areas of communication, they often work together. A child might struggle in one area, or both, which is why a comprehensive approach is so important.

Example 1: A child who knows exactly what they want to say but has difficulty producing certain sounds clearly, making it hard for friends to understand them.

Example 2: A child who pronounces words clearly but struggles to find the words or build sentences to express a complex idea or feelings.

At Bloom, we look at the whole child. We identify exactly which areas of communication need support rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, ensuring therapy is effective and meaningful.

What Therapy Looks Like

Every child is unique, so every session is individualized, engaging, and developmentally appropriate. We believe that therapy is most effective when a child is motivated and having fun. We use a combination of play-based activities, books, games, intentional conversation, structured practice, movement, and everyday communication activities. Therapy may include direct practice as well as functional activities designed to help children use their new skills confidently outside of the therapy room.

  • Children who are difficult to understand
  • Children who have difficulty producing certain sounds
  • Children who use sound patterns that are no longer expected for their age
  • Children who have difficulty understanding directions or questions
  • Children who have a limited vocabulary
  • Children who have difficulty combining words or forming sentences
  • Children who struggle to express thoughts, wants, needs, or ideas
  • Children who have difficulty answering or asking questions
  • Children who have difficulty telling stories or retelling events
  • Children experiencing communication challenges that affect participation at home, school, or socially
