Social Communication

Helping children connect, communicate, and feel confident with others.

Social communication involves how children use communication to connect with other people, participate in interactions, understand social situations, and express themselves.

What Is Social Communication?

Social communication is more than words. It includes the complex dance of taking turns, responding to partners, asking thoughtful questions, and making meaningful comments. It is about understanding another person's unique perspective and using nonverbal cues to bridge the gap between intention and impact.

By learning to adjust communication style depending on the situation, children gain the tools they need to navigate their world with authenticity and confidence.

Communication in Everyday Life

Social communication skills are functional skills children use throughout their day. Whether it's playing with siblings, participating in classroom activities, or sharing an idea, these skills allow children to participate meaningfully in their communities.

Our therapy emphasizes real-life application over memorized social rules. We focus on natural scenarios like joining a conversation, asking for help, handling disagreements, and talking about interests and experiences with genuine peer connection.

Individualized & Neurodiversity-Affirming Support

Bloom meets each child where they are. We prioritize meaningful communication, connection, autonomy, and participation. Our goal is to support children in developing effective ways to express themselves while fully respecting their authentic communication style.

We avoid language about forcing eye contact or teaching children to mask their natural traits. Instead, we empower them with tools for successful interactions that honor their unique personality and neurodiversity.
